Good friend….

Today I spoke with a good friend of Claude’s and mine. Claude knew him first, actually, grew up with him. But that’s not what I want to discuss with you. It’s because he and his wife decided to enjoy the rest of their lives and are living on their sailboat, again.

This man and his wife are cute as can be. He has a motorcycle club and has traveled all over the place with it. His second marriage is to a woman who is just as adventurous as he is. They’ve lived on a sailboat before but as he just told me, after the last health problems he had, he’d been given a third lease on life. And, he recounted, he’s going to enjoy it. Throwing caution to the wind, they’ll be living wholly on their boat, sailing around the world until one of them can’t do it any more.

Listening to him I was reminded how few people really learn to enjoy their lives. We often become too practical and think that we can’t afford to do the things we’d love to enjoy. That happened with Claude and I to some extent.

I’m the adventurous one. At the drop of a hat, I can be ready to find some new sort of entertainment but Claude is the more practical one. He always kept me in line, so to speak. We were always going to enjoy life, travel and on and on one day. Guess what. That one-day happened when he had the stroke five years ago. Deciding to get up and go got up and went. Claude now says, “I wish we had,” when his psychic wife was telling him all along we should be doing.

Don’t allow that to happen to you. Enjoy every moment like our friends are doing now. You can be practical and plan for it but every once in a while do something totally unexpected. Live!
