Psychic abilities and the Bible

Well, as you already know, I am a sucker for a good question and it is the holidays.  That has already been used here too but I think you will like the question.

“Da Juana,
If you don’t mind me asking you this, and please don’t feel judged by me, do you have any idea why the Bible says that your extraordinary gift is wrong?  I’ve never understood that myself and thought of all people you may have insight on that.  Thank you,Julie”

Julie, hope I can answer you in the manner you need.  After all, my father is an old-fashioned preacher, fire and brimstone.  He would really have a problem with my not knowing the Bible.  Let’s start with these verses in 1 Corinthians 14:1-5:  Follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy. For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God.  Indeed, no one understands him: he utters mysteries with his spirit. But everyone who prophesizes speaks to men for their strengthening, encouragement and comfort. He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.  I would like everyone of you to speak in tongues but I would rather have you prophesy.

Back a little in the Bible to 1 Corinthians 12:4-11: There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit.  There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord.  There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men.  Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.  To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another the ability to speak in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.  All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines.

The Bible was based on the gift of prophecy.  If you look at Revelations 18:2-5, you will note that it speaks of the war we are now waging in Iraq.  It is also a history and a set of social standards that are still practiced to keep mankind safe.  For instance, the reason that the Bible says pigs are unclean is because getting the disease, Trichinosis, could take a person’s eyesight.  And that still happens some today but we continue to eat pork.  But back to your question.  The Bible speaks of miracles performed by many such as Jesus turning water into wine and Daniel in the lions den.

As you can tell, there are stories that would leave you in disbelief had they not been called divine by the authors of the Bible.  God gives us the ability to know what is right and wrong for us when we are born.  Note your children.  They know when they do something they are not supposed to but they choose to do it because of their reward.

Religion, although it is full of prophecies, is frightened of someone like me because I am not under their control.  It was okay to do what I do in the church when I was a child but it wasn’t okay for me to walk out the church doors and do so.  To my estimation, God is everywhere and not just behind church doors.
I did eagerly follow the ways of God since I was born with the psychic attributes I have, especially the gift of prophecy.  God gave me those abilities and I am very proud of them no matter what some men may say.  And in the Bible, He also says that gift is the one that makes him happiest because someone like me can help others.

While we are on the subject, some good church-going people have mentioned that I shouldn’t be paid for my gift but they don’t mind paying the preacher.  How long do they think I could live with reading for everyone all day long-seven days a week—without having money to feed, clothe and keep a roof over my head?  People never fail to amaze me but I still want to help and give away a lot of my talents because I want to give back too.Oh, by the way, my book, “Ghosts Talk,” speaks to all these questions.

Thanks for the good question and Happy Holidays.

I noticed that you charge $115.50 for a half-hour reading. I was wondering if the preacher makes that much per half-hour sermon. If you were doing readings "all day long-seven days a week", that's $12,936 a week only working 8 hour days. Don't know about your psychic abilities, but just that one comment just destroyed all credibility you may have had.
